Dak Prescott Softens Contract Rhetoric, 'Enjoys 'Being a Cowboys' Star

Dak Prescott's contract situation with the Dallas Cowboys shows no signs of resolution ... but there is positive progress being made.

Exactly what that looks like is unknown, but Prescott and the Cowboys have been engaging in back-and-forth discussions over the last couple of months.

With the Cowboys' second preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders on the horizon, Prescott reiterated his stance of wanting to stay in Dallas but also stated he understands the business side of what his agent, Todd France, is trying to accomplish for him.

"If it happens, it happens," Prescott said of his contract. "To be honest, it's the business. I'm really happy where I am right now and that's where my focus is. I enjoy being a Cowboy, 1,000 percent. I enjoy living in Dallas. I enjoy everything about it, but this is a business.

"Conversations are going well, but I'm thankful to be where I am right now."

Dak has been level-headed throughout the whole contract process, consistently stating that he isn't worried about it and has confidence that a deal will eventually get done. But there has been some edgy back-and-forth between him and owner Jerry Jones. ... including references from Prescott about his comfort level and readiness to be a free agent next spring and to play in another uniform.

With that sort of talk fading, and the rhetoric softening? Progress.

But with the regular season now just weeks away, that feels like a loose deadline to get Dak's contract done and CeeDee Lamb's, too. Jones famously stated, "Deadlines make deals," and so far, it appears that things are going slow and steady.

Maybe the Cowboys are waiting until they return to The Star to announce either Dak or CeeDee's contract, as the media storm would be enormous.

While Prescott doesn't seem phased by the amount of time it takes to get a new deal signed, Cowboys Nation might be shifting nervously in their seats as they continue to wait to see if Dak puts pen to paper.

Dak states that he wants to remain a Cowboy. It's about time for Dallas to accelerate toward a smart way to make that happen.
