Ahead of this weekend’s preseason tilt, the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the Buffalo Bills for joint practices. There was reportedly tons of trash-talking as the two teams get ready to square off on Saturday night at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin felt like these practices were beneficial for his team ahead of this weekend’s matchup.

“The Buffalo Bills are a good dance partner. We had a really productive practice,” Tomlin said. “Sean and I have known each other since we were kids. I just think it created a really good and competitive atmosphere while maintaining professionalism, so I’m appreciative of that.”

While there was chirping back and forth, nobody expected any type of fight or altercations at camp. Steelers quarterback Justin Fields says these guys are too smart for that.

“I mean guys on our team aren’t dumb. I think we’re all trying to be smart here,” Fields said. “We don’t want anything extra to happen. We’re all professionals at the end of the day and really don’t want any after-play fighting and stuff to happen.”

Fights and skirmishes serve no purpose, especially in practice. Nothing good could come from it, and the risk of injury is way too high for players to engage in that type of activity. Staying healthy and making the team should be these guys' priority.

The Steelers and Bills kick off at 6:00 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
