The Chicago Cubs are looking to quickly erase the series sweep they were dealt by the Cleveland Guardians to begin the week. They are off to a good start on Friday as the team begins a three game series with the Toronto Blue Jays.

In the first inning of the series opener, the Cubs got to Blue Jays pitcher Yariel Rodriguez early with a lead off double by Ian Happ . A few at bats later outfielder Cody Bellinger brought Happ in with a two run homer to give the Cubs an early lead.

The home run marks the 13th of the season for Bellinger and his 48th RBI. The homer went 404 feet with an exit velocity of 104.2 MPH to right center field. He has been on a hot streak as of late at the plate as he is hitting .348/.429/.609 in his last seven games.

The Cubs will look to Kyle Hendricks (3-10, 6.60) in the series opener on Friday to hold onto the lead. Hendricks is coming off a loss against the Minnesota Twins in his last outing, but not after recording his third quality start of the season. He will look to get his first back to back quality starts of the season on Friday.

Chicago entered the weekend at 59-63, 10.5 games outside of the division lead and 5.5 games from the final wildcard spot in the National League.

The game is available only on Apple TV+. Cubs fans can listen to the game on 670 The Score.
