Browns Reveal Roster Plans For Minnesota Game

The Cleveland Browns starters got a lot of great reps in this week during joint practices against the visiting Minnesota Vikings. The Browns have announced that none of their starters will play in this game as they continue to build the backend of their roster and get guys valuable playing time.

Second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson has shined this preseason and will get the start against the Vikings. DTR went 14-of-18 for 134 yards last week against the Green Bay Packers.

DTR will be relieved by former Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley. The undrafted free agent out of Utah back in 2020 is looking to win a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Browns, however, could be showcasing both of these young talents against the Vikings as potential trade bait. The Vikings are quarterback-needy following rookie first-rounder J.J. McCarthy’s unfortunate knee injury that will keep him out all season.

The Browns would probably love to keep DTR on the roster. General manager Andrew Berry & Co. selected him in the fifth round out of UCLA last year. They liked him as a project and he’s come along a lot since joining the Browns.

But if the trade offer was worth it, I could see them parting with DTR.

Huntley, however, has starting experience with the Ravens and could also be a fit in Minnesota, and the Browns have no emotional ties to him.

Chances are, if there isn’t a trade involving either of these guys, we can see Huntley as the odd man out when cut day arrives.
