Brittney Griner and the Phoenix Mercury resumed their 2024 WNBA campaign with a matchup against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Thursday night.

Led by a dominant 23-point, nine-rebound, six-assist performance from Griner, the Mercury went on to notch an 85-65 win over the home-team Sky.

On Friday night, Griner and the Mercury will look to capitalize on that momentum in a matchup against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. These matchups pit Phoenix against the league's two most-impressive rookies on back-to-back days.

Griner spoke about the WNBA arrivals of Clark and Reese in an interview with TMZ Sports earlier this year.

"I think it's amazing for women's sports, with these rookies — I think it's amazing," she said.

The impact of both Clark and Reese on the game of women's basketball is undeniable. Both these rookie sensations were named to the 2024 WNBA All-Star team, shattering league records through the first half of their respective debut seasons.

Reese notched her 18th double-double of the year against the Mercury on Thursday night, but Griner gave her some serious trouble down low. Reese finished the game with 11 points and 15 rebounds, but shot just 4-14 from the field.

Clark and the Fever will resume their 2024 WNBA campaign when they face off against Griner and the Mercury on Friday night.
