Carlos Alcarez had fans in disbelief on Friday.

The 2024 Cincinnati Open had more surprises when Alcarez faced Gaël Monfils in the second round of the tournament. For the first time in his professional career, the No. 3 player in the world was visibly taken off his game when he went down 3-1 in the final set.

Alcarez took the upset loss by a score of 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4. It was arguably the lowest moment we've ever seen of the four-time Grand Slam champion while on the court.

After going back-to-back at Wimbledon, and reaching the Gold medal match during the Olympics, the 21-year-old phenom has been riding an epic wave of success. However, his noticeable frustration is a reminder that even the most talented players in the world can experience adversity.

Alcarez will have an opportunity to get his mind clear before the US Open on August 19.
