More recruiting news hit the timeline on Thursday morning that many fans and experts have highly anticipated.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 , elite four-star running back of the 2025 class, Akylin Dear has told On3 Recruits that he will make his commitment announcement on August 20th, where he will choose between Alabama, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss, where he was previously committed.
The recent timeline of Dear has been moderately chaotic, to say the least. Dear unofficially visited the Crimson Tide on March 21st, but would ultimately announce commitment to the Ole Miss Rebels just nine days following, according to his 247 Sports profile.
The commitment wouldn't last but just short of three months, where on June 28th, he would announce a decommitment from the Rebels.
Growing concerns within the Rebel's program came about with a rumor of a strong connection and relationship he was growing with the Crimson Tide. Back in June, On3's own Steve Wiltfong predicted Dear would flip from Ole Miss to the Crimson Tide.
Now, the talk is Dear's likely announcement will favor Alabama and its fans. 247 Sports' own Tom Loy, who has a knack for being incredibly accurate for his "Crystal Ball Predictions," has Dear favorited to commit to the Crimson Tide. Of the other three predictions set by other 247 Sports recruiting experts, two of the three also confidently predict Dear to commit to the Tide.
As it currently stands, Dear is listed at 6-foot-1 and 200-pounds, and is one of the top running backs in the 2025 recruiting class. According to his scouting reports, Dear possesses abilities and talents such as explosiveness at the line of scrimmage, tremendous ball carrying vision, patience, and power and elusiveness to shed tackles for big time plays. Alabama's 2025 recruiting class is loaded with top four and five-star talents such as Keelon Russell, Ty Haywood, Caleb Cunningham and Dijon Lee. The addition of Dear to this class would elevate the future of Alabama football in a way that Nick Saban did in his recruiting. All eyes will be set not only for this announcement by Dear, but how Kalen DeBoer's first season as Alabama head coach will pan out.
