Jets Remain High on Braelon Allen's Development

The modern game of offense is changing.

With so much speed on the field outside, NFL teams are looking to get smaller on defense, but more athletic. That leaves NFL offenses scrambling to find a way to counter the move of faster defensive players with even bigger offensive ones.

The New York Jets may have cracked the code in that regard.

Breece Hall stands at 5-11 and 220 pounds, Fifth-round rookie Isaiah Davis - at 6-0, 218.

It's fourth-round pick Braelon Allen, though, he may unlock the code to unleash New York's offense in 2024. At 6-1, 235 pounds, he's one of the biggest running backs in all of football. He's also the youngest at 20 years old.

With the Jets focusing on becoming more of a downhill running team, Allen's size and skillset are a perfect fit for the offensive philosophy to exploit the weakness of smaller and quicker linebackers.

"I'm kind of the outlier in the way of size, so I know what I'm here to do, and that's to play smashmouth football," Allen said.

Allen may be an immediate backup to the all-around star in Hall, but he's a player that the Jets should be able to rely on early in the 2024 season. At the very least he has helped transform New York's running back room into one of the best they have had in quite some time.

"It's come a long way since the first year we were here," Jets head coach Robert Saleh said. "We feel like we've got some legitimate runners all across the board."

Allen might crack the code for entire offenses, though.
