Indiana Fever Stars Take Subtle Shot at Phoenix Mercury After WNBA Sweep

The WNBA is officially back, and on Friday night, the Indiana Fever completed the season sweep of the Phoenix Mercury, moving to 3-0 with a 98-89 win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Even with the league taking a month off for the Olympics, Caitlin Clark didn't miss a beat. She recorded her tenth double-double of the season, tallying 29 points and ten assists. Fellow All-Stars Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell chipped in with 14 points and 28 points, respectively.

Following the game, Boston posted a video to her TikTok celebrating the win and the sweep with NaLyssa Smith, Lexie Hull and Katie Lou Samuelson.

Samuelson was in the back holding a speaker above her head as the players executed a synchronized dance, but it was what Smith was holding that grabbed fans' attention.

Smith was seen carrying a broom, symbolizing the sweep of the Mercury. This is a common celebration for sweeps in the playoffs, especially in the NBA and WNBA. But, it was still ruthless nonetheless.

The Fever's first two wins against the Mercury came within two weeks of each other on June 30 and July 12. Indiana won the first game by six points, 88-82, and the second by nine, 95-86.

Clark has recorded a double-double in all three games against Phoenix, dominating the point guard head-to-head against WNBA legend Diana Taurasi.

The Fever will be back in action on Sunday, August 18, against the Seattle Storm. They will look to avoid getting swept themselves, going 0-3 so far against Seattle this season.
