The Miami Marlins played Game One of their three-game road series to the New York Mets on Friday night and lost 7-3. This was a game in which Miami led 2-1 after the top of the fourth inning, but they couldn't hold on.

The Marlins didn't get good pitching from their starter Roddery Muñoz. He only went three and a third innings, allowing five runs (one of them unearned) on five hits and three walks and he struck out five batters. He failed to make it past the third inning after the Mets got three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, including a two-run home run by Jeff McNeil. The bullpen wasn't much of a help either, as reliever George Soriano surrendered a three-run homer to Brandon Nimmo to essentially seal the game for New York.

Miami's offense wasn't at its best on Friday. They managed six hits and two walks, and they struck out six times. New York starter pitcher Sean Manaea held them in check for seven innings.

On the bright side, the Marlins continue to get big production at the plate by first baseman Jake Burger, as he hit his 24th homer of the season in Friday's game.

New York gets a much-needed victory after losing their last series to the Oakland Athletics and is currently a game and a half from the third National League wild-card spot.

Meanwhile, Miami is now 45-77. They will play New York again on Saturday late afternoon with Max Meyer taking the mound against Luis Severino.
