Palmer's Performance vs. Jaguars 'Pivotal' In WR3 Battle

All throughout training camp, one of the most interesting position battles for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been the third receiver position. With Trey Palmer having the inside track, he hasn't grabbed it with both hands.

Rookie Jalen McMillan and veteran Sterling Shepard both have claims to the spot behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and with Palmer only having one catch for 21 yards in the 17-14 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the first preseason game, he needs a better performance vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars .

And for Brianna Dix of Buccaneers.com, how Palmer performs will be an interesting watch.

"Trey Palmer has competed with rookie Jalen McMillan and veteran offseason acquisition Sterling Shepard for the No.3 spot on the depth chart behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin," Dix wrote . "Palmer flies off the line of scrimmage like a cannon and the second-year player continues to gain comfortability in Liam Coen's offense. He is quick out of his breaks and can create YAC yards with agility. In one of the most talked-about battles on the roster, Saturday's performance against the Jaguars' defensive backs for Palmer will be pivotal."

So it appears that Palmer still has the inside track, but he will need to again show some positive signs against the Jaguars to slam the door shut on the WR3 role in Liam Coen's offense.

It is unknown how many snaps McMillan, Palmer, and Shepard will get against Jacksonville, but they all need to make the most of them.

With so many receivers aiming for a select few positions, every time they step onto the field, plays must be made.

Palmer feels like he has the role within his grasp, but against the Jaguars, he has to make sure he leaves no doubt that he is the player to take that role into the 2024 season.
