Carolina Panthers dealing with injuries on both sides of the ball

Injuries are always a problem in the NFL. No matter when they happen, whether in training camp or during the season. It becomes tougher when those injured players were guys you were counting on to be starters and big time contributors to the overall makeup of the team. Seems like the Carolina Panthers are going through that at the moment.

The secondary has taken a big hit with cornerback Dane Jackson looking likely to miss at least six weeks with a hamstring injury. While Xavier Woods will be on the shelf for about two weeks with a groin issue. Nick Scott will fill in for Woods, as multiple cornerbacks will get more opportunity to show their skills, including Lamar Jackson, Dicaprio Bootle, and D’Shawn Jamison.

On the offensive side, second-year guard Chandler Zavala sustained a hamstring injury during a joint practice with the New York Jets. Head coach Dave Canales expressed concern, suggesting Zavala’s recovery might be prolonged. Zavala, who struggled in his rookie season with multiple injuries, was showing improvement in training camp before this setback.

In response to the depleted roster, the Panthers made several roster moves to bolster their depth. They claimed guard Mason Brooks off waivers and signed veteran Ike Boettger to add experience to the offensive line. To make room for Brooks and Boettger, Carolina waived/injured second-year guard Nash Jensen and rookie linebacker Jackson Mitchell was waived.

These additions were necessary as injuries had left the team with only seven healthy linemen ahead of their preseason game tonight at 7PM against the Jets. The team hopes these reinforcements will stabilize their lineup as they navigate these early setbacks.
