Florida State Fans Still Feuding With Kirk Herbstreit Ahead Of Week 0 Opener In Ireland

ESPN College GameDay co-host Kirk Herbstreit fell out of favor with Florida State Seminoles fans after making it known that he didn’t believe their undefeated team was one of the top four teams in the country. The College Football Playoff committee seemed to agree with that opinion after leaving FSU out of the 2023 playoff field. Instead of taking issue with the committee’s decision, several fans took their frustration out on Herbstreit due to his comments leading up to the CFP reveal.

A few months later, we’re nearing the start of the 2024 season. College GameDay will have its first broadcast of the season during Week 0 in Dublin, Ireland between Florida State and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Herbstreit said he expects to see a lot of Seminole fans across the pond.

“Think Ireland folks are fired up from what I hear. Excited for them. Also hearing Noles bringing massive contingent over-which is great!” He wrote in a post on X.

While Herbstreit is keeping his comments diplomatic when it comes to Florida State fans, the same can’t be said for Seminole supporters who saw the ESPN college football analyst’s post.

“They may be. we are not happy for you to be there. stay away from the NOLES!!” Ed James wrote.

“Your biggest fans from FSU will be happy to see you. Bet you get nothing but love from them. Tell them it wasn’t a swing and it’ll make them love you even more. They’ll know what you mean,” Robert Haney commented sarcastically.

“You gonna hate it in a week my boy,” one Seminoles fan replied.

“Not for you,” another FSU fan responded.

Even some Georgia Tech fans felt a bit of shade for not getting a shoutout even though they have far less of a bone to pick with Herbstreit than FSU fans.

“Kirk the yellow jackets are traveling sir. See you there,” James “Rammer” Ramsey wrote.

“Kirk, GT has sold out of its allotment and is bringing more fans. Can we not get some credit as well?” one Georgia Tech fan said.

Herbstreit tried to make amends with FSU fans following their CFP snub, but it seems many are still upset with his stance on their 2023 team. The New York Times predicts Florida State to finish at the top of the ACC this season, which would guarantee them a spot in the College Football Playoff no matter the opinion of college football writers or analysts.

Transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei will have big shoes to fill at quarterback for the Seminoles after Jordan Travis led the team to an undefeated season before missing the CFP in 2023. Kickoff for Week 0’s marquis matchup between Florida State and Georgia Tech is scheduled for Aug. 24 at noon ET on ESPN.
