Insider Reveals New Details With Brandon Aiyuk, 49ers 'Really Close' to Contract

The contract standoff between Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers is reportedly moving toward a resolution after both camps resumed negotiations.

Aiyuk is angling for adjustments to his contract extension, seeking terms that better reflect his value to the 49ers. According to NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo, there's growing optimism that an agreement is within reach.

Garafolo provided insight on the "PuckSports" podcast , saying the elements of the deal have been largely settled as the 49ers have "caved more than they wanted to" to entice Aiyuk to stay.

"My reporting is that they have pretty much agreed to over the first three years of the deal, which is usually the hard part," said Garafolo. "Aiyuk just wants an adjustment in the final year of the deal. Which is not guaranteed."

"(That's) something the 49ers could walk away from, and that’s where the standoff is right now."

Still, Garafolo pointed out that both sides are very close to making a mutual decision.

“I’ve called it uncomfortable and contentious at times," he added. "I think it’s still that, but it’s really close to being done."

Garafolo also noted that there's still a possibility of Aiyuk signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers , although he added that the squad is in an unideal "wait and see" position.

The 26-year-old wide receiver quickly became one of the 49ers' main offensive threats since being drafted as the 25th overall pick in 2020. He's coming off a breakthrough campaign where he earned his first All-Pro nod.

Aiyuk's chemistry with quarterback Brock Purdy, combined with his potential for even greater success in the coming years, makes him a crucial piece that the 49ers wouldn't want to lose.
