WATCH: Jones Intercepted Twice in First Quarter vs. Texans

    By Anthony Licciardi,

On Saturday, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones made his return to game action for the first time since tearing his ACL in Week 9 of last season against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Starting against the Houston Texans, Jones’ first drive was uneventful. He was almost intercepted on his first pass and then targeted receiver Malik Nabers downfield to no avail. The three-and-out would give Houston strong field position.

After the Texans went for it on fourth-and-goal and failed to convert, the offense returned to the field backed up in its own territory. Then, disaster struck.

Running back Devin Singletary began the drive with a two-yard rush. On the next play, Jones faked a handoff and looked to his left, where no one was open. When pressured, Jones tried escaping to his left and throwing late to the flat.

Texans safety Jalen Pitre was waiting for it.

He crashed down and had the easiest pick-six of his career.

For Jones, looking to take back the reins and return to 2022 form, it was about as poor of a play as possible. It was emblematic of some of his biggest flaws – poor play out of structure, post-snap hesitancy, and ultimately putting the ball in harm’s way.

    Things soon got worse.

On the next drive, the GIants offense got in a rhythm for the first time all game. Firing from Houston’s 33-yard line, Jones took a shot on a streak to receiver Jalin Hyatt.

While it wasn’t a horribly thrown ball, the placement wasn’t perfect and Texans corner Derek Stingley Jr. was there to take advantage of it.

    Jones was intercepted again.

With 2:32 remaining in the first quarter, New York trails 7-0.
