Patrick Mahomes has finally pulled off the play he's talked about for so many years.

During the Kansas City Chiefs' preseason matchup against the Detroit Lions, Mahomes completed a behind-the-back pass up the middle to Travis Kelce for a first down.

Mahomes has been teasing the possibility of this play for quite some time now. He's completed it multiple times during training camp practice, but this marks the first time he's completed it in real-game action.

Understandably, the play is going viral on social media.

"FIRST BEHIND-THE-BACK IN GAME," the Chiefs wrote on X.

"MAHOMES BEHIND THE BACK," the NFL added.

"There's definitely a possibility of it," Mahomes said when asked about an in-game behind-the-back pass during training camp earlier this week. "If you do it, it's got to work... Once you're having a good day, you have the freedom to try some of that stuff."

Mahomes' first and only drive of the game resulted in a field goal and a 3-0 lead for the Chiefs. His backup, veteran QB Carson Wentz, threw a touchdown to rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy on the following drive.
