Chris Gamble was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the 28th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. He would play in Carolina until 2012, playing a total of 123 games as a Panther. He retired a Panther and is the best cornerback that the franchise has had. His 27 career interceptions still leads the team. Known for his speed, agility, and ball-hawking skills, Gamble quickly became a cornerstone of Carolina's defense.

In his first season Gamble set a Carolina record for rookies, as he started all 16 games. He earned Pro Football Weekly All-Rookie honors after finishing third in the NFL, and setting a Carolina rookie record with six interceptions. Gamble finished with 75 tackles, a forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.

During the 2005 campaign Gamble once again paced the team with seven interceptions, which ranked him fourth in the NFL. He returned one of those picks to the house 61 yards for a touchdown against Tampa Bay during Week 9. Where he had what is still a team record 101 return yards. He continued to contribute all over the field with 76 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.

2006 saw Gamble atop the team lead in interceptions with three, tied with teammates Ken Lucas and Richard Marshall. He returned one of the interceptions for a touchdown. Gamble finished with 66 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and his first and only NFL sack.

In 2007, he finished the year with 47 tackles and only one interception. This seemed to be just a down year because in 2008 Gamble came back with a vengeance. He had arguably his best season, as he recorded 93 tackles, three interceptions, and a forced fumble. He added a defensive touchdown on 2 fumble recoveries. Gamble also tied for third in the NFL with 19 passes defended.

His play helped push the Panthers to a 12-4 record and a division title. Gamble's leadership on the field was evident as he took on a mentoring role for younger players, helping to cultivate a strong defensive unit. Following the 2008 season, Carolina signed Gamble to a six-year $53 million contract including $23 million guaranteed, making him one of the highest-paid defensive backs in the league.

Gamble was his steady self in 2009 with 4 interceptions and 58 tackles. A rough 2010 seemed like the only truly down moment for Gamble. He didn't have any interceptions for the first time in his career, and following a bad game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11 he was benched for the next game. Hamstring and ankle Injuries took the rest of the season from Chris as he ended the season with a career-low 35 tackles.

In 2011, Gamble bounced back to his normal self as he recorded 45 tackles and three interceptions, further solidifying his reputation as a top-tier cornerback. His efforts did not go unnoticed, as he was named to the Pro Football Focus All-Pro Team, highlighting his excellence in coverage and run support.

Injuries took a toll on Gamble's career in 2012. A shoulder injury limited his playing time, and he appeared in only four games that season. The wear and tear of nearly a decade of professional football prompted Gamble to retire from the NFL in March 2013.

Despite his career being cut short by injuries, Gamble left an indelible mark on the Panthers' franchise. He remains the team's all-time leader in interceptions, with 27 over his career. His 558 total tackles, 96 passes defensed, and four defensive touchdowns further highlight his significant contributions to the team's success during his tenure.

Chris Gamble's career with the Carolina Panthers is a story of impressive achievements and lasting influence. From his rookie season's breakout performance to his role as a defensive leader, Gamble's impact on the team and the league is undeniable. His legacy as one of the Carolina’s greatest players endures, serving as an inspiration for future generations of Panther athletes.
