The Atlanta Falcons have been facing constant questioning for how they've handled the young career of rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. From the decision to draft him in the first place to how they are utilizing him this preseason, a lot of backlash has been coming for the front office.

On Saturday, the Falcons surprisingly decided not to play Penix Jr. in the second preseason game of the year. Head coach Raheem Morris has explained the decision as not needing to see the rookie play anymore after his performance in the first preseason game of the year.

Despite the reasoning, this decision is turning a lot of heads, since the Falcons aren't expecting to play Penix in the regular season for quite some time after signing veteran QB Kirk Cousins earlier this offseason.

So doesn't it stand to reason that these preseason reps are important for the rookie?

Here's a look at how some media members and fans reacted to the explanation on Saturday:

One of the bonuses of drafting Penix was that he is a veteran QB with a lot of college experience, and he could have an impact right away. But with the Falcons drafting him and putting him at the QB2 spot behind Cousins, it may be several years until we can see him play.

As this situation continues to play out over the next several years, I'm sure more questions will come. For now, though, it will be interesting to watch how the Falcons deal with the backlash from these decisions.
