The Kansas City Chiefs traded up in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft to select Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy with the No. 28 pick.

After witnessing Worthy break the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine with a time of 4.21, many felt Kansas City would be a great landing spot for the former Longhorn. Worthy now gives quarterback Patrick Mahomes a speedy deep threat with sure hands.

It didn't take long for the Mahomes-Worthy connection to form this offseason. Several highlight reels of the two have surfaced during Chiefs training camp over the last few weeks. That trend continued on Saturday during Kansas City's preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

Mahomes found Worthy for a big gain early in the first quarter.

Minutes later, the rookie put his speed on display and recorded his first NFL touchdown on a pass from backup quarterback Carson Wentz.

The Chiefs currently lead the Lions 16-15 in the third quarter. Worthy leads the team in receiving with three receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown.
