The NFL preseason is a time for teams to try a wide range of different things, and for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes , that means flashy passes.

With Mahomes practicing the behind-the-back pass in practice and Andy Reid actually being the one wanting to see Mahomes try the play in game-like situations, we finally got it in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

Mahomes dished out a little behind-the-back pass to Travis Kelce that left the NFL world in shock, but the three-time Super Bowl champ has revealed that the pass wasn't planned and, in fact, was thrown in frustration at Travis Kelce.

“Long story short, Travis [Kelce] didn’t run the route he was supposed to,” Mahomes said on NFL Network. “Then it was kind of a behind-the-back pass because I was mad. I was pissed off at Travis. He was supposed to run a flat route, then he didn’t run it, so out of spite, I threw a behind-the-back pass, but now it's going to be a highlight.”

Mahomes has constantly stated throughout training camp that he wasn't a fan of throwing the pass in real NFL action, instead it was Reid wanting him to try it, but it appears that with Kelce running the wrong route, Mahomes, out of frustration, flicked it to his tight end.

It worked out quite well, didn't it?

Now, it is highly unlikely that we will see that pass when the regular season begins as so many things can go wrong with a pass like that, but at least we know Mahomes has it in his locker...even if it was thrown out of frustration.
