Gilbert Arenas Described Kyrie Irving As A 'Snail' In Allen Iverson Comparison

Kyrie Irving and Allen Iverson are arguably the two greatest ball-handlers of all time. With their superb dribbling and finishing, both players have been fan favorites for a long time. Naturally, that gets their fans in debates about who is the better player.

Well, a controversial figure chimed in with a scorching-hot take on the Irving-Iverson debate. In his podcast, Gilbert Arenas came in hot with his assessment of the Dallas Mavericks star and the Philadelphia 76ers legend.

The former NBA All-Star favored Iverson in the debate, saying that AI's speed was superior. However, he also took a swipe at Irving while he was arguing his stance.

“Kyrie [Irving] is a snail compared to f****** Allen Iverson," Arenas said. "How many combo moves [does he have] to do to get by somebody? One move, this is all AI had to do… You couldn’t touch [AI].”

Iverson's greatest asset in his arsenal was his first step. He was able to get by defenders simply due to his speed and quickness. That ability, according to Arenas, separates AI from Irving.

It's worth noting that Iverson has long given Irving props for his skill. Earlier this year, AI said that Kyrie has the best handles ever.

“Kyrie will have you beat, and then bring it back and play with it,"
Iverson said about Irving on Shaquille O'Neal's podcast. "He’s toying with people, you know what I mean? He can still just go, but if he feels like playing with you…”

Iverson is one of the greatest players of his generation. He has an MVP and a Finals appearance to his name. Irving hasn't quite reached that same level of individual success, but he has a Finals win to his name.

Regardless, both players are spectacular athletes who were influential to millions of fans around the world.
