Bills Backup Quarterbacks Split Game in 9-3 Victory Over Steelers

The Buffalo Bills' 9-3 preseason victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers highlighted the ongoing battle for the backup quarterback position between Mitch Trubisky and Ben DiNucci . With Josh Allen resting on the sidelines, Trubisky and DiNucci took center stage, each making their case to be the Bills' second-in-command under center.

Mitch Trubisky, who started the game, showcased his experience and leadership in the first half. Trubisky completed 9 of 13 passes for 86 yards, but his performance was marred by a costly interception that halted a promising drive.

Despite the turnover, Trubisky demonstrated resilience, leading the Bills on a nine-play, 50-yard drive late in the second quarter that resulted in a field goal, tying the game at 3-3. Trubisky's ability to bounce back and manage the game under pressure kept him firmly in the race for the backup role.

Enter Ben DiNucci, who took over late in the second quarter after being signed earlier in the week due to an injury to Shane Buechele . DiNucci finished with 3 completions on 5 attempts for 20 yards and added 3 rushes for -1 yard.

However, it was his game management and composure that stood out as he guided the Bills to two crucial field goals in the second half. DiNucci led a 10-play, 63-yard drive in the third quarter and a 14-play, 71-yard drive in the fourth quarter, giving the Bills a 9-3 lead they would not relinquish.

While neither quarterback found the end zone, both Trubisky and DiNucci demonstrated their potential to step in if needed during the regular season. Trubisky appears to have the edge in securing the backup role, but DiNucci's game management and composure may have raised some eyebrows in the Bills' front office.

As the Bills inch closer to finalizing their roster, the competition between these two quarterbacks remains fierce. Saturday's performances intensified the discussion among the coaching staff.
