Mavs’ Kyrie Irving Shows Respect to Angel Reese

Claim what you want about Kyrie Irving, but you can't take away his charitable efforts. Similar to Kobe Bryant, Irving understands the importance of supporting women's sports. Irving and his daughter, Azurie, enjoyed Saturday's contest between the Chicago Sky and the Los Angeles Sparks. A father with his daughter enjoying a WNBA game says much about what Irving deems essential for his child.

The WNBA is at an all-time high in popularity and overall revenue. Even without the outside noise, Irving would attend games. In the infancy of COVID-19, Irving didn't participate in the NBA bubble. As a gesture of kindness, the NBA star contributed $1.5 million of his earnings to any WNBA player who refused to play in such a circumstance.

The 2016 NBA champion also offered moral support for the WNBA regarding charter flights.

“[WNBA players] don’t need to be overseas all the time. They need to be here playing in front of their families every single day doing what we do,” Irving said. “So I think it’s a lesson learned right now of how we can attack this as a family because the W and the NBA, we’re a family. And I think things will be figured out before the season gets started. I’m very optimistic about that.”

Irving is a genuine supporter of the WNBA and not a player who appeared when the iron struck its peak temperature.

Following the Sky's 90-86 victory over the Sparks, Kyrie and Azurie enjoyed a moment in the tunnel, where they met All-Star rookie Angel Reese, among other members of the Chicago staff and roster.
