Much like last week's contest against the Los Angeles Rams, the Dallas Cowboys' offense got off to a slow against the Las Vegas Raiders. But the defense carried the load for the team before a breakthrough late in the first half. … adding up to a 13-6 halftime lead in Saturday’s preseason game.

The Cowboys defense held firm on the Raiders opening drive, holding off an aggressive early fourth down conversion attempt. On their first possession, Cooper Rush led the team within Brandon Aubrey's range for a 54-yard field goal.

But the game opened up on the following possession when Minshew found Tre Tucker on a 48-yard connection. But Dallas solidified their front and forced the Raiders into a field goal attempt.

The Cowboys third drive came at the end of the first quarter and Trey Lance entered the game under center. After a relatively quiet start on offense, Deuce Vaughn broke free for a 12-yard gain as the final seconds of the frame ticked away.

After three more snaps though, Lance missed on two throws and the Cowboys punted the ball. The Dallas defense would come away with another stop, but Jalen Cropper fumbled on the punt return to set up the Raiders well inside the visitors territory.

Once again, the Dallas defense held serve on a fourth down. Regardless, a three-and-out sent them back on the field and a 43-yard Tucker punt return put the Raiders back in prime position.

This time, Las Vegas settled for a field goal to grab a 6-3 lead.

The ensuing possession proved Lance's best in a Cowboys' uniform thus far. Lance commanded a 14-play 76-yard drive while throwing five of five for 34 yards and a touchdown pass to Ryan Flournoy.

In the final seconds, Lance - with halftime numbers of 8 of 11 passing for 52 yards and the TD plus four carries for 34 yards - showed good football IQ in setting up Dallas for one more try and Aubrey nailed it from 66 yards out at the buzzer to give Dallas it’s 13-6 lead
