Jordan Chiles has been stripped of her Olympic bronze medal following controversial decisions from both the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Chiles was initially awarded a bronze medal for her third-place finish in the Floor Exercise finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. But, the CAS later ruled that USA Gymnastics' inquiry into Chiles' score was not made within the allowed one-minute window.

U.S. officials submitted further video evidence that showed the inquiry was made in time, but that evidence was rejected. The IOC elected to reallocate Chiles' bronze medal to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu.

This decision has sparked outrage around the American sporting world. Legendary American gymnast Alicia Sacramone is one of many to openly criticize the governing powers in charge of this controversy.

"Absolutely enraged and disgusted by this ruling. An athlete being penalized for somebody else's mistake on the competition floor is unacceptable to me. I'm disappointing in the [IOC] for how they've handled this," Sacramone wrote on Instagram.

Chiles issued her first public statement since the ruling earlier this week.

"I have no words," the 23-year-old gymnast wrote. "This decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow, not just to me, but to everyone who has championed my journey."

"I am now confronted with one of the most challenging moments of my career. Believe me when I say I have had many," she continued. "I will approach this challenge as I have others — and will make every effort to ensure that justice is done. I believe that at the end of this journey, the people in control will do the right thing."
