The St. Louis Cardinals snapped their five game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Busch Stadium on Saturday evening.

Here is what you need to know from Saturday's contest.

    Andre was Awesome

If the Cardinals are going to remain in the hunt and find themselves in the postseason for the first time since 2022, the teams pitching needs to step up. On Saturday, Andre Pallante helped the Cardinals take the right step towards that goal.

Pallante was outstanding in his 13th start of the season. He picked up his fourth quality start of the year after giving up only two runs across seven innings of work against the dangerous Dodgers offense. Pallante allowed a run in the first inning with an RBI single from Freddie Freeman d and a solo home run to Shohei Ohtani , other than that, he was fantastic. He picked up five strikeouts in the game and allowed two walks.

Although we will be in some sort of roster crunch once Lance Lynn returns from the injured list, Andre Pallante has earned himself a spot on the Cardinals active roster.

    Homers Do the Trick

The Cardinals bats came alive on Saturday night as they picked up 11 hits in victory over the leaders of the NL West. Among those hits, St. Louis recorded three home runs.

The first one of the night came from Alex Burleson, who hit a two run homer for his 21st of the season. Masyn Winn (11th) and Nolan Arenado (13th) both hit solo shots later in the game as well.

    Helsley was Dominant

Dare I say it was his most dominant performance of the season.

That's bold to say as he picked up his 38th save of the season on Saturday, a stat that continues to lead all of Major League Baseball. Helsley faced the minimum and did it with efficiency in the top of the ninth inning at Busch Stadium against the Dodgers. He went three up, three down with one strikeout and on only six pitches.

Not only is Helsley well rested after not being used much lately during the losing skid, but he will be more than capable to go if needed in the series finale on Sunday.

    What's Next

The Cardinals move to 61-62 on the season and with the Milwaukee Brewers winning tonight, they remain ten games outside of the NL Central Lead. They will finish the series with the Dodgers on Sunday as they look for their second series win of the month. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:15 PM EST.
