Vikings reportedly sign former DPOY Stephon Gilmore to 1-year deal

A day after their second of three preseason games, the Minnesota Vikings have reportedly gotten another big win.

According to multiple national reports, cornerback Stephon Gilmore has agreed to a one-year deal to join the purple and gold. It comes six days after he visited with the team in Eagan .

The deal is reportedly worth $7 million guaranteed and up to $10 million total, so expect to see Gilmore start opposite Shaquill Griffin with Byron Murphy Jr. in the slot.

In joining the Vikings, Gilmore reunites with defensive coordinator Brian Flores after their time together in New England in 2017 and 2018.

Cornerback has been a big need for the Vikings this summer as the unit has dealt with several huge blows. Rookie Khyree Jackson tragically died in a car crash, Mekhi Blackmon tore his ACL during the first practice of training camp and Griffin has been out with a hamstring injury since the first week of training camp, although head coach Kevin O'Connell says he's expected to return by the start of the regular-season.

Still, Gilmore is a huge addition to a group that has a lot of other possible contributors but few with any track records of significant success.

In the two-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler, Gilmore should provide a huge boost in Minnesota's ability to play more man coverage this season, something Flores has said is a goal .

This will be Gilmore's fifth team in five years, but he's still been productive, helping Dallas last year withstand the loss of Trevon Diggs just two games into the season.
