Giants Legend Eli Manning Reveals One Game He'd Go Back and Play Again

Eli Manning is still one of the most loved players in New York Giants' history. Two Lombardi Trophies will do that for a guy who had a .500 career record as a starter at 117-117.

In his 16 seasons as the Giants starter, Manning went to the Pro Bowl four times, and he led his team to the playoffs six times in that same span. And with two Lombardi Trophies in his back pocket, he is a legend for the G-Men.

Recently, Eli sat down with Jessie Palmer to discuss a great many things about football and the Giants. Palmer asked Eli what the one game he would go back and play, and his answer may shock you.

“I’m going back to Green Bay in the NFC Championship Game,” Manning said. “I just want to feel that coldness again.”

If you are unaware, the game-time temperature was -25 degrees. By the end of that game, Giants coach Tom Coughlin’s face was dry and chapped badly.

“I know Plaxico loved it,” Manning said sarcastically. “He was fired up that game. Something was working that game. I remember we used to go out in pre-game. It was before every game; I would go with Plaxico and Amani Toomer and we would have about a 25-minute throwing session and we would go through all the routes and do our routine.

“And all of a sudden, we’re about five minutes through the routine, and they’re not catching anything with their hands. They’re body-catching everything, they’re jumping up, their hands are all frozen. And I kind of looked at them, they’re shivering a little bit, I’m like, ‘Are y’all loose? Are y’all warmed up?’ They’re like, ‘Yeah, yeah, we’re good, let’s go to the locker room.’

“It was good to go out there because you knew you couldn’t let your hands get cold. I knew I couldn’t let my hands get cold.”

The Giants ended up winning the game in overtime on the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field and made their way to the Super Bowl a couple of weeks later.

The Giants would go on to beat the New England Patriots 17-14 in Super Bowl XLII. The win would end the Patriots historic undefeated streak as they came into the game 18-0.

The G-Men would return to the Super Bowl four years later to once again beat the New England Patriots 21-17 for Manning's second Lombardi.

Those two Super Bowl victories will always live in the hearts of Giants fans everywhere as it had been 17 years since the Giants would beat the Bills back in 1990.

Manning will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2025. While his stats may not be worthy of induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame themselves, the two Super Bowl victories should do the trick.
