Steelers Offensive Line Unimpressive in 9-3 Preseason Loss To Bills

The Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive line woes continued in their second preseason game of the year against the Minnesota Vikings. Both quarterbacks - Russell Wilson and Justin Fields - were under duress most of the night.

Following the game, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin addressed the poor offensive line play.

“I just thought we didn’t do a good enough of job of protecting the quarterback. We got to do a better job in pass protection than we did,” Tomlin said. “Not only in possession downs but just in general. I was really upfront with the group about it in that regard. That can’t be a problem for us. We got to be better than we were tonight in that area.”

With three high draft picks in the last two years, the Steelers line needs to figure things out. With quarterback Russell Wilson getting his first start of the preseason, his unit was only able to muster 19 positive yards in 20 offensive plays.

“Still not winning enough possession downs on offense, particularly early in an effort to establish rhythm and gain plays and develop personality,” Tomlin continued. “When you’re not winning possession downs in the early portion of the game, all of those things really get stymied.”

With just one preseason game left to go, the Steelers need to figure out their starters on the offensive line. Let’s just say that 219 total yards and three points aren’t going to win a lot of games.

The Steelers wrap up their preseason schedule on the road at Detroit on Saturday.
