Stock Report: Which 4 Browns Trending?

    By Austin Givan,

In their second preseason game of 2024, the Cleveland Browns were defeated by the Minnesota Vikings 27-12. However, the final score doesn’t reflect the standout performances from several players fighting to solidify their roles on the team. While the Browns rested many starters, key contributors on both offense and defense took advantage of their opportunities.

So let's take a lot at a Stock Report of sorts. Who's up and who's down?

Defensive tackle Chris Williams emerged as a force on the defensive line, recording two sacks and four tackles. Williams, who signed with the Browns after going undrafted in 2020, made a strong impression with his ability to penetrate the Vikings’ offensive line. Williams recorded a late diving tackle to secure a safety and 2 points for the Browns. His performance has likely earned him serious consideration for a spot on the final roster, and at the very least, a place on the practice squad seems secure.

Defensive end Jeremiah Martin also made his presence felt, consistently applying pressure on the Vikings’ quarterbacks. Martin, still early in his NFL career, showcased his potential to develop into a reliable pass rusher. His efforts may not guarantee a roster spot, but they certainly position him as a valuable candidate for the practice squad.

On the offensive side, tight end Zaire Mitchell-Paden stood out with 59 receiving yards on four catches, leading the team in receiving. Mitchell-Paden, who is competing for a spot on the practice squad, displayed his ability to be a reliable target in the passing game. With the Browns’ tight end depth chart largely set, Mitchell-Paden’s strong preseason performances could earn him a spot as a future contributor.

Linebacker Devin Bush , who is expected to be a starter, also made a strong case during the game. Bush, adjusting to his role as the SAM linebacker, recorded four tackles and a quarterback hit. His solid showing in the preseason is a positive sign for the Browns’ defense heading into the regular season.

As the Browns continue to evaluate their roster, the performances of Williams, Martin, Mitchell-Paden, and Bush will be crucial in shaping the team’s final decisions. These players have demonstrated their potential and will be key figures to watch as Cleveland narrows down its roster for the upcoming season.
