The Buffalo Bills on Saturday earned a preseason win with a 9-3 decision over the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium. ... in a game in which Superman sat.

While preseason games are often about evaluation rather than results, this matchup provided several important insights, particularly as the Bills prepare for the 2024 season.

Initially, the Bills announced that their starting quarterback, Josh Allen , would take the field against the Steelers. However, with rainy and unfavorable weather conditions, head coach Sean McDermott made the decision to keep Allen on the sidelines, prioritizing his health and avoiding any unnecessary risks in a preseason game.

Want an easy "key takeaway''? Wise move, coach. The Bills don't need the QB to be "Superman'' just yet.

While the rest of the first-team offense did see action, Allen’s absence highlighted the team's cautious approach as they protect their star player ahead of the regular season.

Mitchell Trubisky stepped in as the starting quarterback in Allen's place, but his performance left much to be desired. Trubisky completed 9 of 13 passes for 86 yards but was sacked twice and appeared to hold onto the ball too long on several occasions. His night was cut short due to a knee injury sustained in the second quarter, raising concerns about the Bills' backup quarterback situation. While the team is likely not exploring the market for another backup, Trubisky's showing did little to solidify his position.

In addition to Trubisky's knee injury, the Bills saw several other players exit the game with injuries, including wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling (neck), defensive tackle Austin Johnson (calf), tight end Quintin Morris (shoulder), and defensive end Javon Solomon (calf). The severity of these injuries remains unclear, as McDermott did not provide updates following the game. With the regular season fast approaching, the Bills will need to carefully monitor these players and make decisions that ensure their health and readiness.

The Bills' 9-3 victory over the Steelers was marred by injuries and an underwhelming performance from their backup quarterback. However, the decision to rest Josh Allen in challenging weather conditions was a prudent move. As the Bills head into their final preseason game, the focus will be on fine-tuning the roster and ensuring key players are ready for the regular season.
