Aidan O'Connell has been trying to win the Las Vegas Raiders ' starting quarterback role throughout the offseason. He's been competing

against Gardner Minshew for the starting job, and the Raiders' matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday was the latest installment of that battle.

The Raiders' lost in dominating fashion , by a score of 27-12. The offense struggled to get anything going throughout the game, and there were a lot of frustrating moments for both O'Connell and Minshew.

"It sucks... It sucks to throw interceptions in general, but to be the last play is definitely tough," O'Connell said. That one will linger, but it's football. You're going to learn from it, move on, and I'm not going to make that mistake again."

The interception that O'Connell is referring to came in the very beginning of the fourth quarter, when he made a bad read, and threw a pick-six, which started the Cowboys' eventual runaway with the game.

Up until that moment, O'Connell wasn't necessarily playing badly. His final stat line included a 14/20 completion rate on his pass attempts, which is impressive. He threw for 96 yards, and a five-yard touchdown pass as well, besides the interception.

However, the pick-six marks a crucial mistake in a crucial game for him. Head coach Antonio Pierce mentioned that this game would decide the winner of the battle , so if O'Connell had avoided that mishap, his chances of winning the job would be much better.

Whoever wins the job, the Raiders will hope they perform better in the regular season than they have so far in the preseason.
