Can QB Daniel Jones Be Fixed?

The New York Giants' second preseason game against the Houston Texans served as a critical test for their first-team offense. With the regular season just weeks away, all eyes were on quarterback Daniel Jones , who was taking his first live snaps since tearing his ACL last November.

However, what was supposed to be a step forward for the Giants turned into a concerning display, with Jones and the team struggling in a 28-10 loss.

Jones' performance, in particular, left much to be desired. The quarterback's decision-making and ball placement were inconsistent, starting from his very first pass—a short throw intended for Malik Nabers that was nearly intercepted by Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr . This early miscue set the tone for what would be a difficult afternoon.

The most glaring error came during the Giants' second series. Backed up in his own end zone, Jones, under pressure from a Texans defender, made a hurried throw into the flat. The result was disastrous: a pick-six by Texans safety Jalen Pitre , giving Houston an early lead. It was a panic move that highlighted Jones' discomfort in the pocket and raised concerns about his readiness for the upcoming season.

Despite these struggles, there were brief moments of promise.

Jones appeared to have put his ACL injury behind him, demonstrated by a 12-yard scramble that showcased his mobility. He also showed signs of improvement in the second quarter, stringing together three consecutive completions, including a 44-yard bomb to Darius Slayton , which set up a touchdown run by Devin Singletary.

So … Daniel Jones can be fixed. Right?

As the Giants continue their preseason preparations, the pressure will be on Jones to find consistency and prove he can lead this team effectively. With just one more preseason game remaining, the clock is ticking for the Giants' offense to get on track before the games start counting for real.
