Do Bills Need to Sign QB Ryan Tannehill?

    By Colin Miller,

While the Buffalo Bills may have left their preseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a win, they certainly didn't leave unscathed. One of the most potentially impactful injuries came late in the second quarter when backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky left the game with a knee injury and did not return.

While the severity of Trubisky's injury is still unknown, it does raise the question: Should the team be satisfied with the current quarterbacks they have?

Even before his injury, Trubisky was heading into the half with just 86 passing yards and one interception through two quarters.

Third-string quarterback Ben DiNucci, who joined the team last week, played the remainder of the game and finished with just 20 passing yards in the second half. The Bills offense has yet to reach the end zone in the 2024 preseason.

While the team obviously has the utmost confidence in Josh Allen as their starting quarterback, there is no way to predict what could happen throughout the NFL season. So, the Bills may want to consider looking at the free agent market for a new backup.

Based on the current names on the market, the top option is likely veteran Ryan Tannehill. After leading the Tennessee Titans to three-straight playoff appearances just two years ago, Tannehill could be the veteran presence that the team needs in the locker room behind Allen.

Until Trubisky's injury severity is confirmed, fans can only speculate who will take the field at quarterback in the Bills final preseason matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday.
