Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has passed WNBA legend Ticha Penicheiro for the league's all-time rookie assist record.

Prior to the Fever's game against the Seattle Storm on Sunday, Clark had 223 total assists during her rookie season. Penicheiro held the WNBA record with 224 total assists in her rookie season, which was in 1998.

Clark secured the record when she notched her second assist of the game with an outlet pass to Lexie Hull in the second quarter.

The rookie had six points, struggling to find a rhythm in the shooting realm prior to achieving the prestigious feat.

Clark headed into the Fever's matchup against the Storm leading the league in average assists. Before tip-off she was averaging 17.6 points and 8.3 assists per game.

She's established herself as one of the most elite playmakers despite coming into the league as a known scorer. The No. 1 pick from the 2024 WNBA draft averaged 28.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.1 rebounds per game in four years with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The rookie passed a legend in Penicheiro, with plenty of opportunity left in her first pro season to extend the WNBA's assist record.

Penicheiro is known as one of the best guards to have ever hit the WNBA hardwood, ending her career in the league as a WNBA champion, four-time WNBA All-Star, and seven-time WNBA assist leader.
