Is Carson Wentz Best Backup QB in NFL?

Patrick Mahomes is obviously fantastic, as he is considered by most to be the best quarterback in the NFL. But the Kansas City Chiefs have got good depth behind him as well.

Fans have gotten the chance to see Carson Wentz as the backup quarterback a good bit in the preseason, and he has looked really solid. It was not that long ago that Wentz was competing for the NFL MVP award.

Wentz had a solid outing on Saturday in the team's Week 2 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions. He finished 5/10 with 31 yards and touchdown, and his rating was solid at a 90.

Back in 2017, Wentz finished third in MVP voting, only behind Todd Gurley and Tom Brady. He was also named to the Pro Bowl and was Second-Team All-Pro that season as well.

He is part of this “ranking” and it’s true he has spiraled into mediocrity since then, but that does not mean that cannot still go out there and get it done whenever the Chiefs need him to. But, the team will be hoping that they won't have to call on him that much, if Mahomes can stay on the field.

But if they have to, the Chiefs can rest well knowing they have one of the best backup quarterbacks in the entire NFL.
