Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark continues to cement her place in WNBA history, this time by shattering the league's rookie assists record.

On Sunday, during the Fever’s game against the Seattle Storm, Clark dished out her third assist of the day, officially marking her 225th assist of the season and surpassing the record set by Sacramento's Ticha Penicheiro in 1998.

Clark reached the milestone in just her 28th game of the season, while Penicheiro set the original mark during a 30-game season in the WNBA’s second year. Now, with 12 games still left to play, Clark has her eyes set on another assist record—the league’s single-season mark of 316, set by Connecticut’s Alyssa Thomas in 2023. At her current pace, Clark is also in a favorable position to break that record.

Following the assist that broke the rookie assist record, Penicheiro showed Clark some love in a video the Fever posted on X.

"Congratulations. A record that stood since 1998, and you came here and you break it," Penicheiro said. "Super proud of you, I know the work you put in. A lot of people talk about your shooting, I was always mesmerized by your passing, your court vision, and how you make your teammates better."

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Clark is not just breaking rookie records—she’s also leading the league with 8.3 assists per game and has already set the Fever’s single-season assist record.

The Iowa product's performance has been remarkable across the board thus far, entering the contest averaging 17.6 points, 8.3 assists, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. Clark is also shooting 32.9% from beyond the arc and 89.2% from the charity stripe.

Here are some of the best fan reactions to Clark breaking the record:

As if breaking the rookie assist record wasn't impressive enough for Clark, later in the same game, she would also break the franchise record for 3-pointers made by a rookie with 77, passing Tamika Cathcings.
