On Sunday afternoon, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever survived getting swept by the Seattle Storm after beating them in their final matchup of the season 92-75. They had lost the first three meetings by a combined 29 points.

With her third assist of the game, Clark (126) passed former WNBA and Sacramento Monarchs legend Ticha Penicheiro for the most assists by a rookie in a single season. It only took Clark 28 games to reach this milestone, while it took Penicheiro 30 games to reach it back in 1998.

Once history was made, Penirchiero took to social media to send a message to Clark on her latest achievement.

"Records are meant to be broken…it shows growth and evolution," Penicheiro wrote. "Can’t think of a better player to break it!! Congrats Caitlin Clark"

The Fever also posted a video of Penicheiro congratulating the former Iowa Hawkeyes star on her new record.

"Hey Caitlin, Ticha here," Penicheiro said. "Congratulations. A record that stood since 1998. And you come here, and you break it. Super proud of you. I know the work that you put in... I was always mesmerized about your passing, your court vision and how you make your teammates better. So this record is in great hands."

Clark has broken a number of records during her first WNBA season. She became the first rookie ever to record a triple-double and secured the record for most assists in a single game with 19 right before the Olympic break against the Dallas Wings.

Meanwhile, Penicheiro spent 11 years with the Monarchs from 1998-2009 after her college career with Old Dominion. She won a WNBA championship in 2005, was named an All-Star four times, and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
