In their second preseason game against the Houston Texans , the New York Giants’ offense took center stage but struggled to find consistent success, resulting in a 28-10 defeat. With the first-team offense on the field for the entire first half, the game provided a crucial test for quarterback Daniel Jones and his supporting cast as they continue to prepare for the regular season.

The game began with high expectations for the Giants' offense, especially with Daniel Jones making his return after an ACL injury. However, Jones' performance was marred by inconsistency, particularly in his decision-making and ball placement. His first pass of the game nearly resulted in an interception, and a hurried throw from the end zone later led to a pick-six by Texans safety Jalen Pitre . These errors underscored the challenges Jones faced in regaining his pre-injury form.

Despite these struggles, there were some bright spots for the Giants. Jones showed resilience in the second quarter, completing three consecutive passes, including a 44-yard strike to Darius Slayton that set up a short touchdown run by Devin Singletary . Slayton's ability to stretch the field was a highlight, and the chemistry between him and Jones offered a glimpse of the potential for explosive plays in the regular season.

The Giants' offensive line, still not at full strength due to the absence of starting left guard Jon Runyan Jr. , delivered a mixed performance. While they provided solid pass protection at times, the line struggled to establish a consistent run game, with Singletary averaging just two yards per carry against the Texans' first-team defense. The line’s ability to hold up against top-tier pass rushers remains a critical area of focus as the season approaches.

The receiving corps also had a mixed outing. Darius Slayton led the group with three receptions for 59 yards, including the key 44-yard catch. Malik Nabers rebounded from a slow start to make several important catches, but Jalin Hyatt's struggles continued, as he failed to secure either of his two targets.

Overall, the Giants' rating? This offense showed flashes of potential but remains a work in progress. With the regular season looming, the team will need to address these inconsistencies to find success when the games start to count.
