Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark surpassed WNBA legend Ticha Penicheiro for the league's all-time rookie assist record on Sunday.

Clark went into the Fever's matchup against the Seattle Storm just two assists shy of breaking the league record. Penicheiro notched 224 assists in her 1998 rookie season.

The Fever rookie achieved the feat in the second quarter of Indiana's 92-75 victory when she found Lexie Hull on the fastbreak with a lead pass toward the basket.

Following the achievement from Clark, NBA legend Isiah Thomas shared his thoughts on Clark's WNBA record. He mentioned the term "special" when speaking about Clark, sharing high praise for her ability to be able to score and assist the basketball at a high level.

"Let it be known that only a special few in our game's history can score while assisting teammates," Thomas said.

Caitlin Clark finished the game with 23 points, nine assists, and five rebounds.

Heading into the game, the first-year star was averaging 17.6 points and 8.3 assists, leading the league in average assists.

She came into the league as a known scorer, averaging over 30 points per game in her senior season at the collegiate level with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Despite having the stamp as a go-to scorer, Clark has quickly turned into one of the best playmakers in the WNBA.

The 22-year-old is attempting to use that playmaking and scoring ability to get the Fever back in the postseason for the first time since 2016.

She has Indiana in the right position with 12 games left on the schedule. The Fever currently hold the No. 7 seed in the WNBA rankings with a 13-15 record.
