Chicago Sky forward Michaela Onyenwere had a fantastic stretch just before the 2024 WNBA All-Star break. It's gone the opposite way for her, however, since the long break. After another poor performance as part of the Sky's starting unit on Sunday, Onyenwere posted the following message on X (formerly Twitter):

    "Trusting the process," she said.

Onyenwere barely made her presence felt on the court during the Sky's 86-68 defeat at the hands of the Phoenix Mercury.

After scoring just a total of 11 points on 4-for-15 shooting from the floor in the previous two outings, it somehow got worse for her, as she had zero points on 0-for-5 shooting from the field in 23 minutes of action versus the Mercury. She missed both her attempts from behind the arc and all three of her shots from the shaded area .

Onyenwere scored two points after converting 2-of-4 free throw attempts.

Over her last three games, Onyenwere has averaged just 4.3 points on an atrocious 20 percent success rate from the field.

Onyenwere, who won the 2021 WNBA Rookie of the Year award, has been starting for the Sky since the Marina Mabrey trade last July, but if her slump continues, Chicago head coach Teresa Weatherspoon might be forced to relegate her to the bench for another option.
