Steelers' Tomlin Reveals 'Small Problem' Held Bishop Jr. Out vs. Bills

While the Pittsburgh Steelers did receive the bad news of running back Jaylen Warren , now expected to miss "multiple" weeks following his hamstring injury in their preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills, the injury update wasn't all bad.

Speaking with reporters following the 9-3 loss, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin revealed the reasoning behind the surprise withholding of undrafted free agent rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr.

“Beanie was a little bit limited on our last workday here in Thursday against Buffalo, so we didn’t want a small problem to become a big problem, ...” Tomlin said. “We didn’t want to jeopardize or compromise that, so we did what we thought was prudent tonight and did not allow him to participate."

Despite going undrafted in this past April's NFL Draft, Bishop has been anything but a long shot to make the Steeler's 53-man roster like many other undrafted rookies. Rather, quite the opposite is true, as the rookie out of West Virginia seemingly projects to be the Steelers' starting nickel come Week 1.

Or at least that is based on Bishop's being the starting slot corner when the Steelers kicked off their preseason against the Houston Texans.

While Bishop was held out of the action Saturday, seemingly as a precaution, several other contributors joined him on the injury list. None was bigger than Warren, who left the game with a hamstring injury.

After being held out against the Bills, it is still unclear whether Bishop will be available for the Steelers' preseason finale Saturday against the Detroit Lions. The Steelers will be on the road for their final preseason game, and kickoff inside Ford Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
