'World of his Own!' RG3 on Mahomes

The preseason isn't the only time for players to knock off the rust as they prepare for the upcoming regular season. It can also be a time for experimentation and making plays players rather would never try in the regular season.

The latter was very much the case for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in their 24-23 loss to the Detroit Lions on Saturday as the reigning Super Bowl MVP went viral with a behind-the-back pass.

Mahomes later admitted that he wasn't trying to show off with his fancy pass. Rather, he did it out of frustration with his tight end, Travis Kelce , who had run the wrong route. But even if it was made in frustration, the one-time Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and now former ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III has claimed that Mahomes' newest bit of brilliance ends a debate.

"Patrick Mahomes took that NFL players can’t play in the NBA debate seriously and brought the basketball court to the football field with this behind the back beauty," Griffin wrote . "Don’t compare any QBs to him, he is in a world of his own."

We won't go so far as to say that Mahomes's talent on the football field can translate onto an NBA court. He's shown he can take things from the court and use them on the field. The latest being the behind-the-back pass.

However, the claim that Mahomes is in "a world of his own" as an NFL quarterback is not debatable. The Chiefs' franchise signal-caller has the most Super Bowl rings of the active starting quarterbacks in the league today, with three, and has a chance of potentially becoming the first in history to win three in a row.

As for Saturday. Mahomes and the starters played in the Chiefs' first two drives, where he completed eight of his 14 passes for 93 yards. However, the first-team offense never found its way into the endzone, as they were forced to settle for two field goals.

The Chiefs will be in action again next Thursday as they host the Chicago Bears in their preseason finale. Kickoff inside GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. CT.
