Carolina Panthers have found their next great linebacker

The Carolina Panthers have seemingly always had a talented linebacker or two on almost every team that they have put on the field since 1995. That first year had Sam Mills and Lamar Lathon, what else needs to be said. The next season they thought they needed more firepower so they brought in Kevin Greene to form the greatest gathering of backers the team has ever seen.

There was a one year lull after Greene left, and before Dan Morgan was drafted in 2001. Morgan gave way to Thomas Davis, and before long here came Jon Beason to form a dynamic duo. Those two worked well together, but injuries took a toll on their greatness. 2011 was rough because both Davis and Beason would miss the season. 2012 would see a return to normalcy as a healthy Thomas Davis would return and Carolina would draft Luke Kuechly. Shaq Thompson would be added in 2015, which now brings us full circle.

It seems as though the Panthers have found their next great linebacker. Although it is quite a bit to live up to, I believe Trevin Wallace can handle the pressure. General manager Dan Morgan said he wanted dawgs when he took over, and Wallace fits that description. Wallace was drafted in the third round, out of Kentucky. Although he is still a rookie, he has been turning heads at training camp, as well as in both preseason games.

Following Saturday’s game against the Jets, Wallace said he has been in the film room watching tape of Panthers’ legends Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis. “I can say Luke and TD, that’s kind of my era,” Wallace mentioned. He did note that he hasn’t seen any of GM Dan Morgan, since he wasn’t born yet.

Although Wallace is yet to play in a regular season game, it is only a matter of time before he joins the long list of great Panthers’ linebackers that have called Carolina home.
