The Pittsburgh Steelers' preseason woes continued with a 9-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills , raising concerns about the team's quarterback situation. NFL analyst Warren Sharp delivered a harsh critique , stating that "there is no winner" in the quarterback battle between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields , both of whom have struggled to make a positive impact.

Wilson, making his Steelers debut after a calf injury limited his training camp participation, completed 8 of 10 passes for just 47 yards. While his completion rate appeared solid, Wilson often settled for check-downs and failed to push the ball downfield. His struggles on third downs and inability to sustain drives highlighted issues in Pittsburgh's new-look offense under coordinator Arthur Smith .

Sharp's analysis was blunt, predicting that whoever earns the starting job may be benched by October if the current level of play continues. He criticized the Steelers for "shopping in the bargain bin" when addressing the quarterback position this offseason, a decision that may come back to haunt them.

Fields, acquired from the Chicago Bears , also had his share of difficulties. After receiving first-team reps in Wilson’s absence, Fields played the entire second half against the Bills, completing 11 of 17 passes for 92 yards and adding 42 rushing yards. Despite showing flashes of potential, Fields’ inconsistency as a passer and his struggles to develop during his time in Chicago leaves questions about his readiness to take the reins in Pittsburgh.

As the Steelers approach their final preseason game, the pressure is mounting on Wilson and Fields to improve. With the regular season fast approaching, Pittsburgh faces a tough decision on who will lead their offense, knowing that the current performance levels are far from what the team needs to compete.
