The upcoming 12-team College Football Playoff will bring more excitement to the sport. It will provide several teams that previously didn't have a chance to make the four-team playoff with an opportunity to make a run at the national championship.

The Ole Miss Rebels have come close to making the playoffs but haven't quite made it. The Rebels are entering the season ranked No. 6 in the country, their highest preseason ranking since 1970, when they were ranked No. 5.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum believes the Rebels have enough to make the playoffs this season due to their strong recruiting efforts, primarily through the transfer portal.

"I think the combination of recruiting and, in particular, the portal has put them in that position," Finebaum said. "I think they do have enough."

Over the last four recruiting classes, the Rebels have, on average, finished at No. 10 in the SEC. However, they have made a significant impact through the transfer portal. Every year since 2022, Ole Miss has finished with a top-two transfer portal class.

In this new era of college football, the Rebels have fully embraced the transfer portal and could be one of the first teams to demonstrate that you can build your team through transfers and still compete for a national championship.
