Jim Harbaugh's former starting quarterback at Michigan JJ McCarthy suffered a meniscus tear last week that will require surgery and almost certainly sideline him for the entire 2024-2025 NFL season.

His former coach at the University of Michigan, Jim Harbaugh, shared his thoughts on McCarthy's injury a few days later, making his thoughts on the top ten pick's future with the Minnesota Vikings extremely clear.

"I know how the story's gonna end with JJ," Harbaugh said. "I've seen this move before. There's nothing that can keep him down. It's not gonna be life-altering.

"Bump in the road," Harbaugh concluded .

McCarthy showed incredible promise during the preseason with a highlight reel first down scramble and two pinpoint long-range passes to Vikings wide receivers.

He finished 11-for-17 for 188 yards (64.7 completion percentage) and two touchdowns versus one interception during his brief preseason stanza with the Vikings.

Fellow Vikings QBs Jaren Hall and Nick Mullens will now battle for the backup quarterback spot behind projected starter Sam Darnold.

Mullens threw for 135 yards and a touchdown as the starter in a win over the Browns this past Saturday while Hall threw for 87 yards and two touchdowns.
