The Baylor Bears will have a new face at the helm of Jake Spavital's offense in 2024. According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, transfer quarterback Dequan Finn has been named the starter ahead of Week 1.

Finn is coming off a career year with Toledo. The former three-star prospect was named MAC MVP after throwing for 2,657 yards with 22 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He also accounted for 563 yards and seven scores on the ground while leading the Rockets to a 11-3 record.

Finn entered the transfer portal as a sixth-year senior in December and shortly after chose Baylor for his final collegiate season. The Detroit native beat out redshirt junior Sawyer Robertson, who started four games for the Bears in 2023.

Finn (6-foot-2, 206 pounds) brings a wealth of experience to the position, albeit from the MAC ranks, with 45 games under his belt. His dual-threat capabilities could cause real issues for opposing Big 12 differences, too. As a three-year starter, Finn accounted for 7,074 passing yards, 1,840 rushing yards and 88 touchdowns.

A poised passer and ball carrier may be just what the Bears need after a disappointing 3-9 season last year. There is a real opportunity to claim the new-look Big 12 with a good year in 2024. Perennial powers Texas and Oklahoma are in the SEC, and new bloods Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah are headed into their first seasons as members.

Baylor will open the season at home against Tarleton State on Aug. 31. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+).
