Chiefs Long-Snapping Dilemma In Preseason Loss To Lions Gets Hit With Wild Update

The Kansas City Chiefs may have lost their second preseason contest by a score of 24-23 at the hands of the Detroit Lions, but there were an assortment of exciting plays from the team along the way.

One of the most overlooked storylines of the day for the Chiefs, though, came at the long snapper position, as James Winchester was forced out of the game early with a shoulder injury.

That forced tight end Noah Gray into the action, and he largely held his own the rest of the way out. After the game, though, it was revealed that Gray had never long-snapped in his life, which is a shocking revelation given how well he did.

Long-snapping isn't something you can typically just do without practice, but it turns out the quick tutorial Gray received on the sidelines was all he needed.

The hope is that Winchester will be able to return to action in the near future, but if he can't, it seems like Gray will be able to hold down the fort in his absence.

Kansas City will wrap up their preseason action when they take on the Chicago Bears on Thursday night before they turn their attention to the 2024 regular season campaign.
