Michigan football is coming off of a season during which starting quarterback JJ McCarthy played his way into a top ten draft pick and the Wolverines won the 2024 national championship.

McCarthy did a fantastic job of spreading the wealth on offense to receivers including Roman Wilson, Cornelius Johnson, and Tyler Morris.

Now, the Michigan receivers room will have to move on with a far less experienced starting quarterback, likely either Alex Orji or Jack Tuttle, and both Wilson and Johnson in the NFL.

The Wolverines' offense could be a work in progress all season, but the receivers room is talented and capable of stepping up in big moments.

Head Coach Sherrone Moore appointed Kirk Campbell from QB coach to offensive coordinator, a move that could pay dividends in the passing game.

Campbell's intelligence and creativity have been praised this offseason, including by Morris who said that the passing game has evolved with Campbell at the controls.

Morris, a junior from Bolingbrook, Illinois, has been the most outspoken Wolverines receiver this offseason.

He record 13 catches for 197 yards and a touchdown last season, the lone TD coming in spectacular fashion against Alabama in the Rose Bowl.

Morris is expected to start alongside Semaj Morgan in Ann Arbor this year.

Morgan had 22 receptions for 204 yards and two touchdowns for Michigan through the air last season. His impact was most profoundly felt on special teams as a returner and as a runner on jet sweeps and reverses.

Morgan ran four times for 67 yards and two touchdowns.

The two wild cards for this unit are a duo of Missouri natives, each with the potential to become Michigan football's new go-to guy in the passing game alongside preseason All-American tight end Colston Loveland.

Frederick Moore, a sophomore from St. Louis, showed incredible speed and hands in the 2024 Michigan Football Spring Game, snagging two passes for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Kendrick Bell, a fellow sophomore from Kansas City and the brother of ex-Michigan star and current San Francisco 49er Ronnie Bell, had two receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Both Moore and Bell have shown incredible speed, awareness, and hands so far during their young careers. Each player thrives at getting upfield fast and is a threat to take short passes the distance.

How Moore and Bell develop could ultimately determine the strength of this unit.

Four-star freshman I'Marion Stewart is another player to watch this season. The Kenwood, Illinois native chose Michigan over Georgia, Colorado, Miami (FL), Oregon, Penn State and Tennessee.

He has the sure hands, maturity and route-running skills to contribute early for Coach Moore's Wolverines.

Expect the 2024 Michigan football receivers room to be one of the most talented in the Big Ten. Morris is coming into his own as a shifty, versatile chain moving receiver and Morgan is a weapon in the running, receiving, and return games.

Moore and Bell could become highly productive in their first full years with significant playing time.

Whether this unit succeeds or not in 2024-2025 could come down to their blocking skills. The Wolverines are almost certain to run the ball as much as any team in the Big Ten and they've consistently been dependent on great downfield blocking throughout the Jim Harbaugh era.

This unit deserves a C+ for its current standing, but the Moore and Bell could transform it into a B+ or an A- by the time the Wolverines' season finds itself in full swing.
